Jill Bennett...

As a rather isolated child I learned the value of books and stories. Once I knew it existed Theatre became my obsession. I also developed a passion for the social history of costume. After marriage and two children. I ran a theatre group, and begin to illustrate children’s books long before dolls came into my life at all.

Kate Pinsent, my daughter, is known to you all! I never thought.....She is, and has been, such a help. My husband, Rodney, also helps with everything I do, and makes wonderful pieces for my ‘people’ to use. He directed TV Drama and has written several children’s books

'J Designs'

Around 1976 I met Sukey Erland, a talented sculptor with a taste for small things. We worked together on Bennett and Erland dolls. The enthusiasm for Dollshouses, and the scale used, was just beginning to arrive from America.

That was the start of a journey which included many talented people in ‘J Designs’, and now, finally, is just myself. The dolls have the porcelain heads and pewter bodies they started with. The wired joints help to get as much life into the ‘people’ as possible.

2008...

This year I am starting to cut back from having too many orders and attempting to go a little more my own way, whatever that may turn out to be!

I am very proud to be a Life member of The British Toymakers Guild, also an artisan member of IGMA, and a Platinum member of the Guild of British Doll Artists.

Most of all I am proud to have such talented colleagues.
