Ellie de Lacy HS

Background

Ellie's interest in miniatures began in 1999 when her husband, Neil, suggested she take up the hobby and bought her a dolls house kit.  She found great difficulty in sourcing appropriate wall decoration and, as she'd been painting pet portraits since her teens, she naturally decided to give miniatures a go.  It wasn't long until it was suggested that she sell her paintings to other dolls house collectors and soon Ellie was attending Miniatura, not as a visitor anymore, but as an Exhibitor.

Hilliard Society

In 2006 Ellie was awarded accreditation by the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists. To earn this award she needed to have three miniature paintings of high standard accepted for their annual international exhibition in Wells, Somerset, two years on the trot.

Paintings

Ellie's specialities are equine, wildlife and pet portraits which she paints in either Gouache or Watercolour on Ivorine, Vellum or Bristol Board bases.  She has reproduced works by the artist George Stubb's which provide an ideal complement to Georgian and Victorian style dolls houses. She's also reproduced works by Landseer, Gainsborough, Wootton and Reynolds in miniature.

All miniature paintings and prints are either 1/12th or 1/24th scale (a Certificate of Authenticity accompanies paintings and limited edition prints).  "I'm currently experimenting with cracking varnish to give my prints an aged effect" says Ellie.

Other miniatures

Ellie also makes miniature art equipment and printed books.  She is working on recreating George Stubbs famous book "Anatomy of the Horse" in 1/12th scale, which she hopes will be ready in time for this year's Spring Miniatura at the end of March.
