Kat The Hat Lady...

Let me introduce myself, I am Kat Hazelton designer and maker of 1/12th scale miniature hats including my new Witch and Wizard hats! A lot of people will also know me as Kat the Hat Lady!

History

I have been making my little hats for over 12 years both as a professional maker and as a hobby, first trading under the name Corylus Crafts and then under my own name Katherine Hazelton.

I have studied full size Millinery at College and then gained a lot of knowledge through working in a Millinery shop providing hats for Royal Ascot.

Wanting to make my own hats and not being able to afford the large expensive hat blocks to create full size hats, I decided to make my hats in miniature instead, selling them through various shops, my website and at Dolls House fairs.

My work has appeared in various magazines and newspapers and I have also written many articles on hat making.   I have also done various talks and demonstrations on the subject of millinery. A lot of my hats are inspired by actual historical hat designs for which I spend a great deal of my time researching in old books, fashion plates, libraries and museums exhibitions. The rest of my hats are made from my own special designs and patterns. I make hats from all sorts of different periods from Medieval times, to Victorian, Edwardian, right through to modern day Royal Ascot. I make them using my own handmade hat blocks. I do make hats from various fabrics, including leather, felt and fabric though I tend to make most of my hats from straw, some of which is hand dyed. I also love doing fantasy hats especially Witches, Wizards and Gothic hats and even handcrafted brooms! These are becoming very popular and have appeared in Dolls House World Magazine.

2008/2009.

I am currently taking the next two years off from running my full time business to take up further studies in Millinery, creating my own patterns and new lines. I am also taking time to update my website and also do my own projects including my very own Witches Hat Shop!

Although I am currently not running my business full time I am still selling a small selection of my hats on eBay including O.O.A.K creations, witches hats and also plain hats for those of you who love to decorate your own.
