- When changing from one brand of polymer clay to another, or using a different oven for baking, do test bake a piece of clay before risking your prize creation.
- When using liquid Fimo, varnish after baking/cooling – some people say they are unhappy with the slightly cloudy effect they achieve, this doesn’t happen if varnished and is an alternative to using resin.
- When using acrylic paints for craftwork, I use tin foil for my working area and squeeze out varied amounts of coloured paint onto it. When I have finished for the day and still have some paint left over, I just fold over the foil (a couple of times if possible) to seal out the air and the paint should be fully useable the next day.
- Similarly, when using PVA glue for craftwork, I use tin foil again for my working area. Plus, a strip of tin foil rolled up really tight into a tiny stick is fantastic to use as a glue applicator and can poke into all kinds of crevices.
- To make tacky glue/PVA even tackier, leave the top off the bottle overnight.
- When dressing dolls, consider, instead of a turned and stitched hem, fray checking and cutting a straight edge instead - particularly useful if the material is quite thick. The final result often looks less bulky and more in proportion.
