You will need:

  • Pie Dish
  • Packet of Carrot slices (or you can make them from some Orange clay)
  • Cocktail stick
  • Clay, White, Brown, Green
  • Craft mat or ceramic tile, to work on
  • Craft knife,
  • Paint brush
  • Fimo Gloss Varnish
  • Sticks of Ochre &  Brown Artist Pastel

General rules:

Before you begin this project, please ensure that your hands are clean as it is surprising how much dirt transfers on to the clay.

Always begin by ‘working’ the lightest coloured of the clays in the kit.

By ‘working’, I mean roll into a ball and flatten and press, repeat this process several times until clay is soft and pliable.

1.        ‘Work’ the white clay and put to one side

2.        Repeat with the brown clay.

3.        Wipe hands again. (Wet wipes are handy to have by you)

4.        Repeat with the green clay.

5.        Roll the green clay into tiny balls (peas) and put to one side.

6.        Roll the white clay into a ball.

7.        Press ball into pie dish and flatten the top.

8.        Take craft knife and carefully cut a slice out and put aside.

9.        With the cocktail stick, dig out a little of the white clay to be replaced with meat filling.

10.       Push some of the ‘meat’ clay into the space created.

11.       Cut small pieces of the remaining ‘meat’ clay and press in front of the filling.

12.       Place carrot slices and peas in and around the ‘meat’, layering them as you go.

13.       Using  the cocktail stick, make swirls on the top of the pie.

14.       Using the grated ochre/brown pastel, brush gently to give your pie a ‘cooked’ look.

15.       Your pie is now ready to bake. Bake according to the instructions on the clay packet.

16.       Coat the meat and vegetables quite thickly with the Fimo varnish – this looks really good if you mix some brown pastel with the varnish first.
