Mostly Art...By Joyce Barmore

Though I have almost always worked in miniature, I am coming into the world of scale miniatures fairly recently.  It was gradual at first.  Sometimes I had been working in scale without knowing I was, and buyers didn't tell me they were shopping for a dolls house or collection when they purchased the miniature Majolica I made back in the beginning.

Then about 10 years ago, I found eBay, and the amazing doll artists were also starting to arrive there.  I left my pottery sculpting behind, and worked very hard at learning the art of sculpting life-like fairies and art dolls, from polymer clay.  Unbeknownst to me, I was once again working in scale, but hadn't learned about the miniature life style until I was invited to join a miniature group connected to eBay.

What an exciting new thing!  I couldn't get enough of looking at all of the beautiful miniatures, learning about scale, doll houses, and room boxes.

I still made the dolls for a while, but more and more, I started gravitating back toward my first love of sculpting in earthenware clay.  I also have a love of Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau pottery, so it just made sense to make my new miniatures in earthenware, and in the styles I am love with as well.

So here I am, still learning, growing, and loving every minute of this journey.
